The Strength in Stillness: Finding Power Through Breath and Pause

Most people think strength comes from muscles.
(It doesn’t.)

When I was a little girl, swimming was my playground.
My mother stood by, urging me to leap,
as I cut through the glassy morning pool.

The stillness of those early hours instilled discipline—
discipline that carried me through national-level competitions and even sea swims.

(At just 15 years of age)

But the water wasn’t always forgiving.

One memory stands out above the rest:
My first sea swim. The one that changed everything.

The moment I leaped into the waves, panic struck.
The water felt heavier, colder, more alive than anything I’d faced before.
Each stroke screamed, “You can’t do this!”

But then came the breath.

✧ Grounding.
✧ Steady.
✧ Deep.

In that moment, I learned something profound:
In a world that screams for action,
the hardest thing to do is pause.

I was reminded of this lesson years later during a marathon.

Mile 18.
My legs were jelly.
My lungs on fire.
And my mind? It begged me to stop.

Just as I was about to give in, I remembered something from my sea-swimming days:
The power of breath.

This same philosophy is amplified in yoga.

It’s not about how fast you move or how far you go—
It’s about how present you can be.

Today, I help:

✦ Parents
✦ Teens
✦ Corporate professionals

Find their pause.

Because life’s not a sprint.
It’s a marathon of moments that demand mindfulness.
